About us
Hotel Posada del Tepozteco in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico, is a fine old house of Mexican ancestry with over 50 years of tradition, now turned into a beautiful and cozy boutique hotel in the Magic Town of Tepoztlán.
The founders of the Posada were Mr. Eduardo Villaseñor: poet, banker, politician and diplomat, and Mrs. Margarita Urueta: writer and playwright.
Given its location on the natural vantage point of the Valley of Tepoztlán, it allows a wonderful view of the enigmatic and whimsical formations of the Tepozteco National Park. We are only one short block away from the center of town.

Tepoztlán is a folkloric town of indigenous roots. It has 8 barrios, each with its own old, original chapel, a true delight for any visitor to see. At the heart of the valley rises the Monastery of the Nativity, a 16th Century building decorated with original frescoes. The building was dedicated to the Virgin of the Nativity, from whom it takes its name. This architectural monument was declared Legacy of Mankind by UNESCO.
The cuisine in our restaurant, El Sibarita, is designed for the most varied and refined palates, offering traditional dishes from the region, like the Mole Tepozteco, as well as a unique menu of contemporary Mexican and international creations. Our wine list includes a variety of both national and international selections. We provide Room Service up to 21:30 hrs.

Tepoztlán
By the mid 15th Century, Moctezuma, the Aztec king, had conquered more than 30 pueblos (villages), among them Tepoztlán. This territory has been inhabited since 1300 B.C. by different people like the Nahuatls in the 12th century and the Xochimilcas in the 13th century. Conquered by the Spaniards in 1521, it was then inhabited mostly by the Mexicas.
This ancient town attracts tourism from Mexico and other parts of the world for its beautiful scenery, archaeological sites, and the folklore and traditional religious feasts that are celebrated throughout the year. For this reason, the Mexican Tourism Ministry has included Tepoztlán among Los Pueblos Magicos, literally The Magic Towns, due to its unique location and outstanding surroundings. It is found at the northern part of the state of Morelos, neighboring the Federal District.
At the top of the beautiful mountain range, which is 3000 mts above sea level, you can find the pyramid dedicated to the god Ometochtli Tepoztecatl, the god of wind, fertility and pulque, dating from the 13th century. The original inhabitants regard the valley and the mountains as sacred and believe the gods still live there.
It belongs to the southern part of the Sierra Madre. In the woods may be found white tailed deer, tlacuaches, and puma. Due to its natural beauty and archaeological sites, in 1937 President Lázaro Cárdenas declared this area a National Park..

After the Spanish conquest, the Dominican friars built numerous churches and monasteries, the most renowned being the Church of Santa Maria de la Natividad and the ex-convent, now a museum. One of the most interesting places to visit is the Peace Museum donated to Tepoztlán by the poet from Tabasco, Carlos Pellicer, in 1966. The chapels in each barrio are also worth visiting: San Miguel, Santo Domingo, La Santisima, Santa Cruz, Los Santos Reyes, San Sebastian, San Pedro, and San Jose in Tepoztlán, and those in the nearby towns of San Andres de la Cal, Santa Catarina, the Sanctuary in Ixcatepec, the Temple in Santiago Tepetelapa and San Juan Tlacotenco.
The 8 barrios, several colonias and nearby towns hold celebrations at least twice a year. During the ceremonies the people rejoice, dance and make abundant use of fireworks. They prepare authentic, traditional indigenous cuisine which you will be generously invited to share.
In the market you can find, and acquire, all sorts of local and imported handcrafts, like the pochote houses, clay dishes, and cotton clothing.
